Skips FAQ

1. How much are your Skip Hire prices?

2. How do I order a skip?

To order a skip please use the contact form on our contact us page or call us on 01494 559900

3. What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash/cheque on delivery of the skip or payment via credit/debit card over the telephone at the time of ordering your skip.

4. How long can I keep a skip?

Our standard skip hire service includes 1 weeks skip hire, please contact us if you require the skip for a longer period of time. There is normally no extra charge.

5. What do your skip hire prices include?

Our prices are fully inclusive of delivery, collection and licensed waste disposal of your waste. There are no hidden costs.

6. What size skips do you have?

We have the following skips, there are descriptions of sizes as well as an image below of all skip sizes together:

3 cubic yard (2.3 Cubic Meters) – This size skip will hold approx 30 – 35 black bin bags of waste. 3 yard skips are also known as mini skips and are ideal for small gardening jobs etc. Any waste may be disposed of in this size skip apart from the exclusions listed below. A 3yd skip is 1Mtr High x 2 Mtrs Long x 1.7 Mtrs Wide.

6 cubic yard (4.6 Cubic Meters) – This size skip will hold approx 60 – 65 black bin bags of waste. 6 yard skips are the most common skips ideal for medium building sized projects and bulky waste. We have some 6 yard skips with drop doors meaning that you can literally walk your waste into the skip. Any waste may be disposed of in this size skip apart from the exclusions listed below. A 6yd skip is 1.1 Mtr High x 3.1 Mtrs Long x 1.9 Mtrs Wide

10 cubic yard (8.85 Cubic Meters) – This size skip will hold approx 80 – 100 black bin bags of waste. 10 yard skips are good for house clearances and large building projects. These are very popular and are often used for muck away etc. All of our 10 yard skips have drop doors, you can walk your waste into the skip meaning that you do not have to throw the waste in to the skip. Any waste may be disposed of in this size skip apart from the exclusions listed below. A 10yd skip is 1.2 Mtr High x 4.2 Mtrs Long x 2 Mtrs Wide

12 cubic yard (9.2 Cubic Meters) – This size skip will hold approx 100 – 130 black bin bags of waste. 12 yard skips are commonly used for large household and office clearances. These skips are for light waste only. A 12yd skip is 1.7Mtr High x 4.2 Mtrs Long x 2 Mtrs Wide

We offer 12 yard, 18 yard, 30 yard and 40 yard roll on roll off bins for larger construction and clearance projects. Please contact us for more information on these.

We also offer a 6 and 10 yard drop door skip hire service, there is no additional charge for a drop door but you must request a drop door skip at the time of ordering.

7.  What can I put in the skip that I hire?

You may put any general waste into the skip that you hire, this includes soil, brick, general household waste, garden waste etc.

8. What am I not allowed to put in to the skip that I hire?

The following are items that are not allowed to be disposed of in our general skips. We do offer skips for any type of waste removal so if you have any of the following then contact us for a quote telling us what you have to dispose of.

9.  How much can I put in the Skip?

You may fill the skip as high as the top of the sides of the skip. This is to ensure that the skip is safe for transportation on the public road.

10. Can the skip be put on the road outside my house?

As a general rule skips on hire must be situated on private property. If you would like the skip on the road or grass verge you must have a permit (License) from the local council. We can arrange this on your behalf.

11. What happens if I cannot have the skip outside overnight?

We offer a Wait and Load service, this service has no extra cost and the driver will wait with the skip whilst it is loaded for approx 1 hr.

12. How big is the lorry that will deliver my skip?

Our lorries are approx 10ft wide, Please allow 10ft for access.

13.  What happens to my waste?

We dispose of your waste at a licensed waste transfer station where waste of all types is sorted for recycling. So you can have peace of mind when using Hawes Skip Hire that your waste will be recycled where possible.

14. Are you licensed to carry my waste?

Our waste transfer licence number is TWE/672772 issued by the environment agency.

Grab Hire FAQ

1. How much waste does your 6 wheel grab lorry carry?

Our 6 wheel grab lorry can carry approx two and a half 6 yard skips worth of waste.

2. How much waste does your 8 wheel grab lorry carry?

Our 8 wheel grab lorry can carry approx three and a half 6 yard skips worth of waste.

3. How far does the crane on the lorry reach?

  • Our 8 wheel grab lorry will reach approx 8 mtrs from the side of the lorry
  • Our 6 wheel grab lorry will reach approx 6 mtrs from the side of the lorry

4. Can I mix inert soil and rubbish in a grab load?

You can, however the cheapest option is to seperate the inert from the rubbish, please see our price list.

Grab Bag Service

Our Grab Bag service offers easy waste disposal using 1 tonne bags. These Grab Bags can be collected from our shop in High Wycombe or can be deliered to you anywhere in our coverage area. We will advise you on where the bag can be situated in order for our grab lorries to collect it.

The following are items that are not allowed to be disposed of in our Grab Bags. We do offer skips for any type of waste removal so if you have any of the following then contact us for a quote telling us what you have to dispose of.
